My coffee + dog toy = BAD DOG!
Advice about writing, shopping and everything else (is there anything else?)
My coffee + dog toy = BAD DOG!
If you shop at Wal-Mart you should consider joining The Great Value Roundtable, an online community of dedicated Wal-Mart shoppers. You get to participate in online surveys and provide your input about the Great Value brand. For every survey completed, you get a chance to win a $500 Wal-Mart Gift Card. Drawings are held each month for 10 gift cards.
Recently I had a chance to try some new Great Value products including the Pecan Shortbread Cookies and Twist N Shout sandwich cookies. Cookies do not last long in my house. 🙂 The Pecan Shortbread cookies are excellent and taste just like Pecan Sandies. My family enjoyed the products but we did not really care for the new Great Value white packaging design. While I think it is an improvement over the original Great Value packaging, the white is way too generic. Also when you are shopping in Wal-Mart the white packages tend to get lost on the shelves. If Wal-Mart wants this to appeal to its customers I think they should revisit the design.
If you are a regular Wal-Mart shopper, don’t forget to register for the Great Value Roundtable.
PLEASE DO NOT USE ALL CAPS WHEN WRITING. IT IS A BIG NO-NO AND IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING. Don’t use all caps, period. It is appropriate for a heading or title but never in the body of a document, especially email. Recently a woman in New Zealand was fired for using all caps in an email message to co-workers. Vicki Walker worked as an accountant for a company called ProCare who said that the emails she wrote using ALL CAPS, bold typeface, and red text created “disharmony” in the workplace.
This just goes to show you how people, especially employers, can find the use of ALL CAPS offensive. Walker sued her employer and was awarded approximately $11,500 damages in U.S. dollars. Although the company might have taken it too far by firing her, this does illustrate how ALL CAPS should not be used in the workplace. And DON’T USE IT IN A BLOG POST EITHER.
Special thanks to my student who forwarded me this article which is definitely interesting. 🙂
After five years and 55 shows, Dr. Oz is leaving Oprah’s nest to start his own show which will debut on September 14. While I have enjoyed tuning in when he was a guest star on Oprah, I can’t imagine watching him every day. Of course I said the same thing about Dr. Phil and what do I know? He is still around and it has been seven years since he left Oprah to star in The Dr. Phil Show. One thing is for sure–leaving the nest usually equals success.
So are you going to watch The Dr. Oz Show?

I would love to win this because I actually *like* Wizards & Selena Gomez! My kids and I don’t agree on too many shows, but this is one we really enjoy together.

I have been enjoying my new pair of prescription eyeglasses from EyeBuyDirect. They have a wide selection of high quality eyeglasses, from designer sunglasses to rimless frames and reading glasses, all at affordable prices. I can tell you that I was hesitant at first about ordering glasses sight unseen online, because glasses are just traditionally one of those things I want to try before I buy. EyeBuyDirect makes this possible with their special interactive demo called “Eye Try” to help you choose the perfect pair of glasses because you can actually “see” what the glasses look like on you before you buy them. You upload a face forward picture of yourself, and play with the size, color and shape of your prescription glasses. The site also features tips to choose what shapes and colors look best on certain types of faces and skin colors.
After looking at lots of choices online, I decided to enlist the Little Write Gal’s help for a second opinion. Her first choice was the pair that I ordered, the Carmen Bronze, pictured below.
Here is a picture of me wearing the Carmen Bronze, using the “Eye Try” feature which I saw before ordering my glasses:
Here is a picture of me wearing my new glasses, which was taken after I received them in the mail. I love them!
One thing that impressed me about my EyeBuyDirect glasses was the quality. I actually like my new pair better than my old pair which I bought at my optometrist’s office. My old pair was almost $500 (total) and this pair was less than $100 including my lenses. You would never know they were so inexpensive because the quality and style are superb! This information is from the EyeBuyDirect Web site:
EyeBuyDirect is able to create high quality, cheap eyeglasses because we are the manufacturer, supplier and retailer, so we are able to do every step of the process in our global prescription and manufacturing program. Buy glasses online with EyeBuyDirect, whether it’s reading glasses or designer eyewear, and we promise you the industry’s best quality and service.
My friends at EyeBuyDirect are very generously giving one lucky Write Gal reader a $100 Gift Certificate to spend on a pair of prescription glasses of their choice! This is for a pair of eyeglasses but does not include the designer eyewear or sunglasses. I know you are dying to enter so here are the details:
Visit the EyeBuyDirect Web site and tell me in a comment how you would spend your $100 Gift Certificate.
Please leave one comment per extra entry as the winner will be chosen randomly. The contest is open until 11:59 p.m. EST on September 28, 2009 to residents of the United States only. The winner will be notified via email shortly thereafter and will have 72 hours to respond back to me. If no response is received another winner will be drawn.
